Navya Disha, a registered charitable Trust, partners with CreditAccess Grameen Limited to implement CreditAccess Grameen’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda. The CSR program aims to equip rural communities with authentic, up-to-date and reliable information through awareness building programs. The objective is to promote respectable livelihoods while ensuring environmental sustainability and gender equality. CreditAccess Grameen’s CSR programs are implemented in all its areas of operations.
Headquartered in Bengaluru, Navya Disha has two branches in Tumakuru and Belagavi. It has a dedicated specialized team of experts in water, sanitation, education, rural development and environment. Since its inception, in the year 2005, Navya Disha has been striving towards empowering communities by promoting healthy practices and providing information regarding their rights, roles and responsibilities towards education, health, environment, facilities provided by the government as well as available livelihood opportunities.
As CreditAccess Grameen’s CSR partner, Navya Disha builds awareness through various campaigns and programs at the district, taluk, panchayat, village and community level. Programs include WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) training sessions, street plays, taluk level workshops, masons’ training (in construction of low-cost, high-quality toilets), WASH workshop for Gram Panchayat members, wall paintings in villages, group training sessions and non-curricular training for school children in financial literacy, WASH and career guidance.
Water & Sanitation Program
The Water & Sanitation Program (WASH) is implemented by Navya Disha for CreditAccess Grameen customers to encourage hygienic practices by building awareness about the impact of unsanitary practices on health and wellbeing. The program motivates women to construct toilets in their homes, avail water connection to access clean drinking water, build rainwater harvesting systems and practice safe disposal of the waste through biogas plants, composting and solid waste management programs. Navya Disha provides free technical training to local masons in toilet construction and water connections, to attain total sanitation in as many villages as possible.
Funded by CreditAccess Grameen, the Sugrama project aims to achieve 100% sanitation coverage in its target areas. Thus, the Sugrama initiative is not restricted to Grameen Koota customers alone but aims to create model villages that will benefit the entire community.
Navya Disha is implementing this project on a pilot basis in two of the most underdeveloped Grama Panchayaths in Karnataka – Urdigere Grama Panchayath in Tumakuru District and Hosa Vantamuri Gramaa Panchayath in Belagavi District.
The project is an effort to reach households which have remained unreached till now to enable access to adequate safe drinking water, proper waste disposal systems and making the villages open defecation-free.
Sushikshana: Child Education Program
In the year ended March 31, 2015, CreditAccess Grameen launched Sushikshana, a child education program, with the objective of educating school children on non-curricular topics such as water, sanitation, hygiene, financial literacy and career guidance. High school students of government, private, aided and un-aided schools of Karnataka and Maharashtra are covered under Sushikshana. Rich in audio-visual content, the interactive program is specifically designed for students and is delivered with the support of Navya Disha staff and volunteers.
